2. Not a Legal Authority

The Foundation operates as a facilitator and awareness-building body within the legal framework established by the Government of India.

  • Legal Framework: All activities related to organ retrieval and transplantation in India are governed by the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act (THOTA), 1994 and its subsequent amendments, and the rules and guidelines formulated by the National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO).
  • Final Legal Authority: The Ranka Jain Foundation is not a regulatory body. The final authority on all legal and procedural aspects of organ donation and transplantation rests with NOTTO, SOTTOs (State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisations), and the certified transplant hospitals. The donor pledge collected through this site is shared with NOTTO/SOTTO for inclusion in the official registry.

3. Role of the Ranka Jain Foundation

The Foundation’s role is to:

  • Educate the public about the life-saving importance of organ donation.
  • Motivate individuals to pledge as donors.
  • Facilitate the recording of donor intent and share it with the national network.
  • Provide support and guidance to the public.

The Foundation does not participate in the medical matching of donors and recipients, the organ retrieval process, or the transplantation surgery itself.
